Born on April 23, 1966, Nevin Sungur grew up in Yalova- Turkey. She graduated from Bosphorus University and did her BA in Psychology.

Instead of  Psychology, she decided to move into journalism and started working for Tempo Weekly. She travelled to Afghanistan and Pakistan, covered the post-Soviet invasion period in Afghanistan, interviewed the warlords including Uzbek General Rashid Dostum, interviewed Benazir Bhutto, covered the Presedential Elections in Georgia in 1992, interviewed the former president Zviad Gamsakhurdia who was in exile in Grozni.

After working for Tempo Weekly for 3 years, she joined ATV in 1993. From 1993 till 1996, she worked for a weekly news program called “A Team” as a reporter.

In 1996 she started working for a 40-minute weekly news and travel show called the “Reporter” and travelled to more than 60 countries. While producing and presenting the “Reporter”, she also covered breaking news (like the uprising against Suharto in 1998, 1999 Earthquake in Turkey) as a field reporter.

Nevin Sungur joined NTV in January 2001, initially preparing “The Route”, a weekly 30-minute program that highlighted extraordinary parts of Turkey. After that, she moved to war reporting. She was in Afghanistan during the US operation in 2001 and later she traveled to Afghanistan many times to cover the post-war period. She covered the Israeli- Palestinian conflict and also went to Iraq to cover the war in 2003 and also the battle over Fallujah, Shiat uprisings in Najaf and Baghdad later in 2004.

She filed long-format stories and documentaries: Northern Iraq: Towards War; Iraq: One Year After the Invasion; A Day on USS Abraham Lincoln; The Rose Revolution in the Republic of Georgia, Follow the Women: Bike Ride in the Middle East and interviewed world leaders: Abdullah Gul- Foreign Minister of Turkey, Muhammad Naji al-Otari- Prime Minister of Syria,  , Khamid Karzai- President of Afghanistan, Shimon Peres- Former Prime Minister of Israel, Celal Talabani- President of Iraq, Mikhail Saakashvili- President of Georgia, Marwan Muasher - Foreign Minister of Jordan, among others.

She also published articles in National Geographic Turkey, NTV/MSNBC Website, and articles in Turkish papers and magazines on current events.

In 2002 Nevin Sungur won TV Oscars Special Award, HABERTURK Hande Yener Award,  “Best Reporter of the Year” Award by Journalists Association of  Turkey,  “Best Reporter of the Year” METIN GOKTEPE AWARD,  “Best Reporter of the Year” Award by Association of Modarate Journalists of Turkey for Qala-i Jangi Uprising coverage  in Afghanistan.

In 2003, she won  “Most Courageous Woman Journalist of the Year” Award by the University of Culture for the war coverage in Iraq.

As additional professional activities, she attented a Reuters Workshop in Beirut in 2004, participated in World Press Institute Fellowship Program for International Journalists in 2003 and did her internship at Sipa Press- Paris in 1993.
