It conveys the resistance of the workers of the thermal power plants at Yatağan, Yeniköy and Kemerköy against privatization which is one of the main arteries of the new liberal politics.

The continuous actions against privatization that which took place for 18 years at Yatağan Thermal Power Plant by the leadership of Erol Soğancı, the chairman of Yatağan branch of the TES-İŞ Union, has set a foremost example in Turkey of the resistance against the new liberal politics.

With the democratic actions, that took place in an atmosphere where anti-democratic practices turn out to be considered as “normal” conduct and the union system suffers from a serious deformation; both the accomplishments in collective work contracts and the interruption of the privatization process constitute an example of an achievement of the struggle that is carried out on realistic and legal policies and strategies.

Our purpose is to share this information with the community through investigating the example of the labour movements at the Yatağan, Yeniköy and Kemerköy Thermal Power Plants that occurred at a time when the socio-economic theories are revised, when the “class” concept is analyzed and when there is a major desperation in the sense of social opposition.
